Baptized as Wilhelm MECHLIN; William & 1st wife, Esther MECHLING, were first cousins, once removed. In 1812, they moved to Fairfield (now Perry) Co OH, where Esther died. In 1815, William was appointed Justice of the Peace. By 1818, that part of Fairfield Co had become Perry Co, that same year he donated an acre of land for St. Paul's Lutheran Church & school. In 1827, it is noted that he bought one of the first Lutheran catechisms to be had in Lancaster OH. In 1830, he gave $75.00 towards the construction of the church. In 1833 & 1835, he purchased approx. 340 acres in Allen Co OH. In 1843, he gave land to St Paul's Luth & Ref Ch for a cemetery.

William mar 3rd, 14 Nov 1853, Fairfield Co OH to Elizabeth Catherine LUTZ

After William died in Allen Co, his body was taken by train to Newark, Licking Co OH and thence by wagon to St. Paul's cemetery. He left a will, dated 17 Feb 1855; age 70 yrs.
