"Mrs. Thos. Barry, former well known resident of the Masonville community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Taylor, at Seattle, Wash., Friday, Dec. 3, 1937, after a brief illness. The body accompanied by the children, will arrive in Manchester Thursday morning and will be taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Will McMahon, near Masonville. Funeral services will be held in the Masonville Catholic church Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery near Masonville. Father McCaffery will be in the charge of the services.
Margaret Deegan was born at Bankston, Dubuque county, Ia., in 1864 and grew to young womanhood there. She was married to Thomas Barry in January, 1888. The home was established at Dubuque, where they lived for several years. Later the family came to Buchanan county, and located in Middlefield township, west of Masonville, and 35 years ago moved to Masonville. Soon after leaving the farm, Mr. Barry passed away. Mrs. Barry resided in Cedar Falls for many years and eight years ago went to Seattle to be with her daughter.
Surviving Mrs. Barry are two daughters, Mrs. Harry Taylor of Seattle, Mrs. Edward Kelly and Wm. Barry of Walla Wall, Wash. Three sons preceded her in death. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Frank Thelan of Bankston, Ia; Mrs. Con Moore, Dubuque; and two brothers, Patrick Deegan, Ryan; and Tim Deegan, Elma, Ia.
Mrs. Barry is well remembered by many of the older people in Masonville and vicinity, to whom the news of her passing brings a great sorrow. These old friends extend sincere sympathy to the children in their sorry."
