He had military service as a soldier in Company K, 155 Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. He married Helen Bruce Blair on 23 April 1874 in Solomon, Kansas. He died when he was killed in an accident involving a runaway [team of horses?]. He was the son of Samuel Fleming and Rebecca Anderson McCombs.
