Norris Humphrey Doty was born June 2, 1853 on the donation land claim of his father, five miles west of Jefferson. He died June 10, 1930 at the same place of his birth. He was the son of Nelson R. Doty, who crossed the plains in 1847 and Elmira McClure Doty, who came to Oregon in 1850. On February 28, 1889 he was married to Helen L. Stone.
