Jacob Wable was born in Conshocton County, Ohio in 1843. Very little is know of his extreme early life, but no sooner had the rumors of war began to cirulate than he begin to prepare to go, volunteering his services at the earliest.
This is not meet with the approval of his father who interferred with his arrangements, but Jacob being somewhat determined in his nature, left the parental roof in order that he might accomplish the desire of his heart, via, Help to save the nation.
He enlisted as a Private under Captain James B. McConnel Company C. 82nd Regiment Ohio Infantry Volunteers, being enrolled November 18th, 1861 to serve three years and was discharged Dec 6, 1863 at Chattanooga Tenn. by reason of re-enlistment as a Veteran Volunteer.
His Re-enlistment was on Jan. 1st, 1864 as a Private under Captain Milton March Company G. 82nd Regiment Ohio Veteran Infantry Volunteers. From this service he was discharged July 24th, 1865 at Louisville KY by the order of 25 Hd 2rs Army of Tenn July 5th 1865.
He was wounded twice during his service, having been shot, the ball having passed entirely through his body. He seemed to have recovered from the effects of this but in after years suffered greatly from the effects of it.
At another time he severly cut his foot almost severing his Great toe and as a result of not having proper treatment, it grew on crooked, thereby making of him a cripple, the rest of his days.
After his return from the Service he was united in Marriage to Miss Louisa Knobloch, at Fremont Ohio.
To this union was born eleven children, two of which have preceded him in death.
Jacob with his companion began housekeeping at Freemont, living there for about three years, they then moved to Dunkirk Ohio living there about seven years. He then went to Scott Ohio, residing there but a short time. He came with his family to Adams County in 1877, living within a radius of four miles for 18 years, at which time he came to Daleville.
His life since coming here has been too well known by all to need our comment
His very unexpected death came suddenly Thursday evening, while preparing to do some work in his garden, which is a reminder of the fact "that in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man Cometh". He leaves a wife, six sons and three daughters, besides a number of friends and relatives to mourn their loss. His age being 65 years.
