Catherine was born on Cleanish Island, Ireland and was a daughter of William Fallas, Jr and Bertha "Betty" Barnett. She married James Wilson on May 2, 1826. James was a coal miner and moved his family to Northumberland, England, hoping to find better working and living conditions. He died on Dec 5, 1839 in Northumberland, leaving Catherine to raise her three sons alone. Catherine joined the LDS Church and sailed to the U.S. on the ship William Tappscott in April of 1859. They crossed the plains as members of the George Rowley Handcart Co and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Sep 4, 1859. Catherine and her son James remained in Salt Lake City for the remainder of their lives. She did not remarry. She was extremely courageous, industrial, hard working and most admirable. Her children were Charles, who settled in Goshen and died in 1866; James F., who stayed in Salt Lake City; and Hugh, who settled in Payson.
