Members of the James Madison Cole family were early pioneers of Dallas County, Texas. After his death in 1883, several of his children moved to California. In this photo taken before 1920, left to right, are Nettie Isabelle (Cole) Snook, Elizabeth Jane "Jennie" Dobbs (Cole) Huguley, Lucy Ann (Cole) Morris, Charles Bennet Cole, Carrie Clementine Cole, Mary Alice (Cole) Lucas. Their mother, Sarah Ann (Bennet) Cole (1831-1920), is sitting in front.

-Obit: Pacific Union Recorder, Vol. 19, NO. 31 (18 Mar 1920):
"Cole-- Sarah A. Cole died in Healdsburg, Cal., Feb. 5, 1920, aged 89 years. She had been a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for over forty years, having embraced the doctrines of this church while residing in Dallas, Texas. She has always lived a Christian life, was zealous for this truth, and looked forward with joy to the coming of her Lord. She leaves nine children to mourn her loss. Services were conducted by the writer. -- C. H. Hinchey.
