Maxine A. Johannes, 78 of Malcom, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Her funeral service was Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at Watts Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Doland of the West Liberty Church of Christ officiating. Interment was at West Liberty Cemetery, Searsboro. Watt Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.
Casket bearers were Steve Lash, Koby Pagel, Travis Johannes, Matt Johannes, Mike Wagenknecht and Doug Barnes.
Maxine was born July 21, 1927 in Poweshiek County, the daughter of Aily and Pansy Blossom (Workman) Hicks. On Nov. 1, 1943, she was united in marriage with Harlan G. Johannes at Monetzuma. To this union six children were born, Beverly, Bonnie, Barb, Danny, Tammi and Jayme. Maxine worked at Dieomatic when it first opened and then she and Harlan owned and operated the Monte Motel for several years. Maxine was a family person and her greatest joy was being with her family.
She is survived by her family, Beverly (and Wes) Smith of Grinnell; Bonnie (and Dave) Baltimore of Montezuma; Barb (and Gary) Pagel of New Sharon; Tammi (and Scott) Wagenknecht of Malcom; and Jayme (and Stacie) Johannes of Malcom; a daughter-in-law, Deb Johannes, of Montezuma; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Madelyn Kramer of Fort Madison, and Leona Ochs of Deep River, and other relatives and friends.
