Leona Lavelle Hicks was the daughter of Ailey and Pansy Blossom Workman Hicks. She attended country school in the Poweshiek area.
On November 20, 1937, Leona was married to Melvin Ochs in Vinton, Benton County, Iowa. To this union three children were born; Stan, Murlene and Gerald.
After they were married, Melvin and Leona ran the oil station in Deep River for a few years before they started farming. They farmed in the Deep River area most of their lives.
Leona enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the United Church in Deep River.
