He was born June 14, 1922, in Syracuse, Utah, the son of David Earl and Dora Miller Patterson.
He married Darlene Malan on June 10, 1942, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Rex was reared and educated in Utah, graduating from Davis High School and attending Weber College. He was raised by his loving stepfather and longtime resident of West Point, Orson Davis. He lived in northern California, moving back to Utah, where he lived for the last 20 years. He served his country during World War II. He loved coaching baseball and basketball with his son and grandsons. He played semi-pro baseball and loved spending time with his family, camping, and taking trips. He was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, West Point 3rd Ward. He will be missed greatly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Darlene, West Point; five sons and two daughters, Gary (Georgia), Hyrum, Rex (Pat), Tahoe, Calif., Ron (Chris), West Point, Rick (Lisa), Reno, Nev., Randy (Midge), Brigham City, Judy (Mike) Henry, and Vicky (Mike) Romero; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mabel (Clinton) Marx, Ogden, and Helen (Wilbert) Dawson, Roy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Brent; a brother, John; and a sister, Dora.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at the West Point LDS Stake Center, corner of 4000 W. and 800 North. Friends and family may call on Tuesday at Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 S. State St., from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the Stake Center from 12:30 to 1:45 prior to services.
