George R. Batchelor was a son of Moses B. Batchelor and Minerva Monk of Hardin Co., Tennessee. His father moved with Moses's parents Wilson Richard Batchelor and Alcie Odom from Nash Co., North Carolina, to Tennessee in 1818. The family settled first in Maury County, and then eventually in Hardin County, where Moses married Minerva, daughter of Strachan/Strahon Monk and Talitha Cherry abt. 1838. In 1848, Moses and Minerva moved to Hot Spring (later Grant) Co., Arkansas, to settle near Moses's sister Hannah Delaney Batchelor and her husband Lawrence Cherry Byrd, who also moved to Arkansas from Hardin Co., Tennessee. These families settled at the crossroads community later called Poyen. Minerva died in 1860, and Moses on 9 April 1883. He's buried at Lindsey Cemetery in Poyen. Moses and Minerva were the parents of John Wilson, Wiley, James Decalvin, George Richard, Daniel Tucker, and Edward Eli Batchelor. By a second wife Louisa Waters (Robertson), Moses also had a daughter Minerva Louisa Batchelor. George R. and Catherine Ryan Batchelor were the parents of Elizabeth, Stephen, James Franklin, Delilah Jane, John, Alice Catherine, Frances Isadora, William H. Thomas Ryan, Patrick Eli, Moses Valentine, George Hugh Parks, Marion Monroe, Hattie Paralee, John Richard, and William Edward Batchelor. The first son named John died of diptheria in September 1879, aged four.
