"Death of a Rush County Pioneer
"Jacob Herrman, Sr., died at his home in Liebenthal on Friday, May 20, 1910, at the advanced age of 85 years, 7 months and 21 days. He was born in Russia on September 29, 1824*. His wife died 23 years ago, on March 18, 1887. Nine children were born to them, eight boys and one girl. Two of the boys have died and those surviving him are John E., Jacob, Martin, Joseph, Peter E., and Henry, and the daughter, Margaretha, the wife of John Bollig. They, with most all the people of Liebenthal, were present at the funeral.
"Mr. Herrman was a great member of the Catholic church and helped to build four churches during his lifetime. He came to this country in 1875 and in February, 1876, he came to Rush county, locating in the town of Liebenthal where he continued to reside for 34 years, till death claimed him. The six living sons are all residents of Rush county and the daughter, Mrs. Bollig, lives in Ellis county."
