Composer. He was a composer and band leader during the 1930's and 1940's. Born and raised on the Gulf Coast of Texas, he began his career as the bass player in the Ted Weens and Spike Jones bands, before forming his own group. Country Joe Washburne appeared regularly on the Fiber McGee and Molly and Great Gildersleeve radio programs during the 1930's. As a composer, he is best known for writing the hit One Dozen Roses, which topped the Hit Parade for eighteen weeks in the 1940's. His other noteworthy musical compositions are Oh Mona, You Don't Know What Lonesome Is, I Saw Esau, and That's the Reason.
