Mariah Elizabeth Polson was born in Randolph, Missouri to John Ellis Polson and Frances Sims. On March 6, 1864, she married John H. Rice. They had 4 children together: Julia, Daniel, John and Susan. John H. Rice died in 1872. She remarried widower and father of 8, George Washingon Archer sometime in 1875-1876. They had six children together, George F., Minnie (George F.'s twin who died in infancy) Calvin, Josephine (the daughter of George W. Archer's daughter Phoebe Jane, raised as George and Mariah's), Leonard, and Emory.
In 1903, George and Mariah left Missouri with 3 of their sons for Oklahoma when it was still a territory and in 1912 Mariah's husband George passed away. She followed him in 1920.
