A native of Cherokee County, she was the wife of Berl Byars and daughter of the late Easly Shelt and Lonie Scates Pennington. She was a member of Blacksburg Church of God, former secretary of the Sunday School Class and member of the Ladies Auxilliary of the church. She was a textile worker.
Also surviving are two daughters, Louise B. Wisher and Sue B. Hatcher of Blacksburg; a son, Berl Dean Byars of Blacksburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Louise Wisher, 1528 W. Cherokee St., Blacksburg. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Blacksburg Church of God by the Revs. James Chappell, Chris Golembiowski and John Jenkins. Burial will be in Mountainview Cemetery.
The body will be in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
