Son of Valentine Bockius and A. Louise Grossen

He was born in Bueleveldt, Prussia. He served in the army of Bonaparte at age 12 as a drummer, with his father, Valentine. In 1818, having had enough of the rigors of army life in Europe, he left Germany, arrived by ship in Philadelphia, and went to his uncle William Buckius in Lancaster where he learned the shoe trade. He then went to Canton, Stark Co, OH in 1820 to live with his uncle, John Buckius who was in the tinning and coppersmith business.

Occupation: Boot and shoe manufacturer.

Married Rosanna Dorothea Keller on May 25, 1825 in Canton OH.
