MILDRED LUCILLE MOORE SONNEMAN

Mildred Lucille Moore Sonneman, age 94, a lifelong resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at the Fort Scott Medicalodge. She was born March 7, 1909, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Jesse B. Moore and Margaret Gillies Moore. Mildred graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1928 and Fort Scott Junior College in 1930. She worked for her family's grocery store, Moore and Sons Grocery located at 1002 S. Main and later for the Western Insurance Company. Mildred also worked for the Coca Cola company during the 1940's. Mildred married Bert Sonneman on May 14, 1960. He preceded her in death in 1970. Mildred was an excellent pianist and loved playing golf. She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church. Mildred especially loved spending time with her friends and neighbors on Burke street. The annual Fourth of July parades were some of her best memories. On several occasions, she was honored to be the parade's Grand Marshall and rode in either a convertible or a boat. Survivors include two great-nephews, Harry E. Warren and wife, Patty, Fort Scott, Kansas, and David C. Warren and wife, Lorna, Indianapolis, Indiana. Also surviving are several great-nieces and another great nephew. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Marion Moore Warren; three brothers, Burris "Burt" Moore, Harold "Pat" Moore, and George Moore, and a nephew Charles M. Warren.

Rev. David Watson will conduct graveside services at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2004, at the U.S. National cemetery. Friends and family may meet at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel on Friday prior to leaving for the cemetery at 2:15 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
