Ray grew up in the Sulphur Springs community near Aurora, Kansas where he graduated from the 8th grade. In March 1952, at the age of twenty, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean war. He was honorably discharged in 1960. His greatest interest was his family. He also was a Ham radio operator which he enjoyed very much. Ray was a very likable person with a keen sense of humor. He always enjoyed visiting with his friends. He was a diligent worker and good provider for his family. Following is a brief resume of jobs held by Ray Capper:
