William McDonald was born in Orange county, Indiana, October 2, 1834, and passed away at his home in Manhattan, Kansas, January 20, 1919, aged 85 years, 3 months, and 7 days. He was married to Cynthia Ann Cummins, March 31, 1850. To this union were born eight children, four of whom died in infancy. A. J. McDonald, the oldest son, preceded the father about four months ago. Mrs. Lizzie McDonald Anderson, the oldest daughter, passed beyond some 20 years ago leaving a small daughter, who has made her home with her grandparents since that time and to whom they were very much attached. He leaves to mourn his departure, a loving wife, two daughters, Mrs. E. R. Rudy, and Mrs. P. F. Rudy, both of Manhattan, Kansas, two sisters in Indiana, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren . served for 3 years and 9 months in the Civil War . he has lived in various places and at each place has united with the local church. He served as elder in three different congregations .. In his late years he was spoken of by the younger men as "Uncle Billy" .. remains were placed in the Soldier cemetery .. Among those from out of town who were here to attend the funeral of Wm. McDonald were Mrs. Wm. McDonald, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rudy and daughter, Grace, Mrs. Ettie Rudy and son Guy, Clatie Anderson, and Carl McDonald, of Manhattan, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Anderson, of Atchison, and Mrs. A. Wilson, of Holton.
