James L. Shireman
Died: Sunday, April 19, 2009

James L. Shireman, 82, Corydon, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.

Born March 31, 1927, in Harrison County, he was the son of the late Harvey Lane and Maude Emma Smith Shireman.

He was the founder of James L. Shireman Inc. in Corydon, was a member of Corydon United Methodist Church, VFW Post 2950 in Corydon, Pisgah Lodge 32 F&AM in Corydon, Kosair Shriners and Scottish Rite, Corydon Moose Lodge American Legion and Sagamore of the Wabash, was a board member of Prosser School of Technology, was a former board member of the Chamber of Commerce of Harrison County, was the Harrison County Republican chairman from 1964 to 1974 and was a Marine veteran of World War II.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Wayne Shireman.

Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Wiseman; four sons, Michael L. Shireman of Palmyra, Mark D. Shireman of Lanesville, David L. Shireman of Dallas, Texas, and Joseph A. Shireman of Corydon; a daughter, Rebecca S. Eckart of Corydon; two sisters, Anna Lopp of Naples, Fla., and Louise Sanford of Merritt Island, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, April 21, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon and Wednesday, April 22, after 10 a.m. at his church.

Funeral: Wednesday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at his church followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery west of Corydon.

Officiant: Pastor Samuel Padgett.

Pallbearers: John, Jeff, Ben, James D. and Daniel Shireman and Kyle Eckart.

Honorary pallbearers: Kelly Veliky, Brooke Shireman, Darcy Eckart and Kenneth Wiseman.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Shireman Family Scholarship Fund, c/o Harrison County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 279, Corydon, IN 47112 or to his church, 214 Elm St., Corydon, IN 47112.
