"The New Castle (IN) Weekly Courier, June 2, 1882
Mary, wife of John Reichert, was born in Henry County, Indiana, May 10, 1827, and died at the family residence in New Castle, May 21, 1882, aged 55 years and 11 days.
She was first united in marriage with Charles Cannaday. Eight children were the fruits of this union--seven are still living, the most of them being present at the funeral service. After the death of her husband, she managed by industry and economy to keep the family together and rear them under her care until they were able to help themselves. She was married to her surviving husband on June 5, 1879, which proved a very happy union, but of short duration. She obeyed the Gospel of Christ and united with the Christian church at Hillsboro about twenty-five years ago, which profession she adorned until the Savior said "come up higher." For many months she has suffered with an incurable disease, but has borne her affliction with Christian fortitude, and as the hour of her departure drew near, her faith and hope shone brighter and brighter. The religion that sustained her through her life was her comfort and solace in the hour of death. Funeral services were held at the Christian church on Tuesday morning, after which her remains were laid in the silent city of the dead. May God's richest blessings rest upon the surviving relatives.
