Mrs. Bostwick, Pioneer Woman, Taken by Death
Widow of Late Banker and Native of Minnesota, Recalled Stirring Ante-Bellum Days

Mrs. Emma Mable Bostwick, 85, resident of Waco since Civil War days, and widow of the late H. G. Bostwick, insurance executive and vice president of the National City bank, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the family residence, 522 North Twelfth street, following an extended illness.
Native of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Bostwick came to Waco in a covered wagon 72 years ago. During the earlier days of her life, and the early history of this city, the prominent Wacoan was co-proprietor of a dressmaking shop near the present location of the municipal building. Relatives said she recalled watching veterans of the war between the states floating back home on logs down the Brazos river in preference to walking.
Funeral services for the pioneer woman will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday from Compton's chapel. Rev. T.R. Hay, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, of which she had been a member for more than 60 years, will officiate.
Pallbearers will include L. R. Hill, F. C. Sterquell, J. M. Hawes, Floyd Brown, F. E. Phillips, and James Brown. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving Mrs. Bostwick are one sister, Mrs. Clara C. Heithecker of Waco; two nephews, W. H. Heithecker of Waco, and F.E. Heithercker of McPerrson, Kans.

Co E, 15th TX Vol. Infantry. He married in Waco, TX 10 Dec 1885 to Mabel Emma, daughter of Anson and Mary Shelley. Mabel was born in St. Paul, MN 24 Sep 1856 and came to Texas with the J.S. Taft family in 1875. The Bostwicks are Democrats and Presbyterian. (Information provided by Nancy Yankie.
NOTE: Birth year for Mabel here of 1856 conflicts with birth year on her headstone of 1854. I don't know which is correct.)
