Nancy Elizabeth Sherrard Evans was the wife of Thomas W. Evans. Nancy and Thomas W. were married in Madison Co., MS on Sept 17, 1844. Peyton L. Clower, her step-father, was bondsman. Parents were Rachel Fowler Alford Sherrard and Benjamin Sherrard of Holmes Co., MS. Grandparents: Fort Alford and Hannah Goodson of Lawrence Co., MS and John Sherrard of Yazoo Co., MS. Her Great Grandfather was William Goodson of Lawrence Co., MS. Siblings: Sarah Ann Sherrard (Clower), Julianna Sherrard (McMillan) and William F. Sherrard...in William's line of descendants is Laura Bush. Family records say Nancy may have been 1/8 Cherokee Indian. This has not been proven.
Nancy applied for and received widow's pension benefits on Sept. 9, 1892 in Kosciusko, MS.

You will find lengthy MS court records of a lawsuit Nancy's mother Rachel, along with the step-father P. L. Clower, her sister Sarah Ann Clower, her brother William F. Sherrard, sister Julianna McMillan and Nancy brought against her father's family over the settlement of her father's estate sale after his death in 1835. Benjamin's brothers Joel, William, John R. Solomon and his sister Sarah were named.

Nancy was the mother of Benjamin T., Eliza Jane, Joel Milton, John Henry, Rachel Talula, Charles T., Henry Spencer, Elizabeth, Annie Elizabeth, William R., Stephen Elzie Creighton, Thomas P., Nancy Ella, and Caroline "Callie' Evans. Six of the children died at an early age. This photo of Nancy was passed down in the family of her son Joel Milton Evans. Also, a picture of Nancy's and Thomas W's son Stephen Elsie Creighton and wife Amanda who are buried in Whistler cemetery in Whistler AL. It is not known where oldest son Benjamin T. and Joel Milton are buried.
