Thomas Banks was born May 26, 1880 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of Thomas Banks and Margaret Ann Hayes. HIs father was born in Preston, Lancashire, England and his mother was born in Edinburgh, Scotland.
MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted July 23, 1901 as a Private at Fall River, Massachusetts. Served with 17th Battery Field Artillery. Discharged as a Private on July 26, 1904 at Angel Island. Second enlistment was January 25, 1905 as a Private at San Francisco, California. Served in U.S. Army Hospital Corps. Discharged as a Private First Class at Fort Flagler, Washington. He participated in the following: Expedition to Merahue April 5 to 16, 1905 Battle of Bacalod April 6, 7, and 8, 1903. Battle of Calakue April 9 and 10, 1903 Expediton around Lake Sanao, Mindanas P.I. May 2 to 10, 1903. Battle of Taraca River May 4, 1903. On Jobo Expedition August 23 to September 4, 1903. On Bucobod and Cauayan Expedition Mindanar, P.I. April 11 to 15, 1904. In-action at Bacobod April 12 to 14, 1904 and Skirmish at Cauayan April 13, 1904.
Mr. Banks applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home on 3 November 1933. He was then 53 years old, was 5 foot five and three quarters tall, had a fair complexion, and was a resident of King County. He stated he had been in the state continuously since 1908 and that he was by occupation a Warehouseman.
He had married twice, his first marriage in 1908 ended in divorce in 1913. His marriage to Mary E. was performed in Seattle on December 9, 1916. He stated he had no living children. After Mary's death, he married Ruby Orr in Kistap County on November 2, 1949
Mr. Banks was admitted to the Veterans' Home on November 23, 1933. He died there at 10 A.M. on July 8, 1955. His widow was listed as Ruby Orr Banks. Directions were that he be buried beside his first wife. Pall bearers were provided by the Port Orchard Masonic Lodge. Mr. Banks had been affiliated with the Spanish War Veterans.
