CIVIL WAR VET TAKEN BY DEATH ON SATURDAY
DANIEL TUTTLE, 86, of DEXTER CITY, PASSES TO HIS REWARD
Daniel W. Tuttle, age 86 years, died at his home in Dexter City, Sat. at 10 o'clock a.m. He had been in failing health since last December. He was one of the oldest Civil war veterans in Noble county and the last surviving one in the Dexter City community. He saw service throughout the war. He was a member of Company H, 161th Regiment O.V.I., serving under General McClellan, part of the time.
Mr. Tuttle was born at South Olive October 24, 1845. His parents were Joel and Dortha Wheeler Tuttle. He had been a faithful member of the New Harmony Baptist church for a great number of the past years.
Mr. Tuttle was united in marriage with Ceola Morgareidge Tuttle and in their later years they moved to Dexter City. His widow and four children survive him. The children are: Hugh Tuttle, of Caldwell; Hurd Tuttle, of Youngstown; Mrs. Howard Davidson, of New Lexington; and Mrs. Tilton Warren, of Dexter City. There are several grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon by Rev. Green of Byesville. Members of the American Legion acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in the South Olive cemetery with funeral director L. D. Headley in charge.
