Linus Tuttle, son of Joel and Dorothy Tuttle, was born near Dudley, O., August 11, 1826, and departed this life January 18, 1909, at his home in Caldwell, O., aged 82 years, 5 months and 7 days. He was married to Susanna Crooks, of Morgan County, May 25, 1848. To this union were born eleven children. Two died in infancy. One, Mrs. Hiram Tilton, died nine years ago. The remaining eight are Sarah A. Lukes and Mary E. Tilton, of Zanesville, Wm. L. [William Linus] and F.E., of Belle Valley, Junetta Davis, of Caldwell, Alfretta Tilton, of Derwent, F.S. of Hiramsburg, and Miss Belle of Caldwell. Of his brothers and sisters there are living George. of Meigs County, Joel, of Broadwell, Athens County, Daniel, of Dexter City, Aranda M. and Abigail Hutchison of South Olive, and Alice Burlingame in the west. Five preceded him to the better land, Edward, Augustus, Amy Davis, Rhonda Burlingame and Martha Caldwell.
He confessed his Savior in baptism and united with the New Harmony Baptist church under the ministry of Rev. John S. Skinner, sixty-two years ago, and ever lived a devoted Christian life.
He was held in high esteem by all who knew him, being a man of true and upright character. His funeral was held in the New Harmony Church of which he was so long a member, in the presence of an unusually large audience and was conducted by his pastor, Rev. A.K. McCall and assisted by Rev. M.W. Evans of Hebron, Ohio, and his body was laid to rest in the South Olive Cemetery to await the coming of Him who said "I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live and whosoever Liveth and believeth on me shall never die."
