Edward A. Antwine

Edward Augustus Antwine, for many years a well known resident of Barnhart's Island and Massena, died early Monday in the Hepburn hospital, Ogdensburg, aged 70 years. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

Last September, while working for Dennis Carey and Royal Dignean at Racket River, he was badly hurt in a runaway. He was engaged in drawing corn for a silo when the rack on the wagon broke, throwing him between the horses, which were badly frightened. He managed to throw himself to one side but the wagon passed over his left arm and leg. He had not been the same since. He went to the hospital about a week before his death.

He was born on Barnhart's Island, son of John and Arilla Pratt Antwine. By occupation he was a farmer, living on the island until about 20 years ago, when he came to Massena. He married Miss Elizabeth White on August 3, 1906, who survives with three sons, Charles Antwine, of Massena, Harold Antwine, of Racket River, and Floyd Antwine, of New York; one brother, James Antwine of Massena; and one sister, Mrs. Charles Burson, of Cornwall, Ont.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock from the home of his son, James A. Antwine, 1 South Street, Rev. W. J. Grafton, of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial was made at Barnhart's Island.
