Marvin J. Holbrook, 82, passed away Oct. 10, 2008, at a local hospital after a brief illness.

Marvin was born May 13, 1926, in Emmett, Idaho, to Arthur and Agnes Holbrook. He graduated from Emmett High School in 1944. He held the Emmett High School long jump record until it was broken in 1977. After graduation, Marvin began working for Boise Payette Lumber Company - later known as Boise Cascade Corporation - retiring 44 years later.
Marvin married Evelyn Kesgard on March 15, 1947.

Marvin was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed camping with his family. A favorite pastime was bowling, and he was a member of a senior bowling league in Ontario until the time of his death.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; their sons and families, Steve and Patti and daughters, Melissa and Keri (Michael) Welch, Dale and Chris and son, Joe and daughter, Nicole, Kevin and Sandra and daughter, Jennifer, Brian and Jennifer and daughters, Samantha, Lauren, Emilee and Haylee;
siblings Pete (Ruth) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ralph (Dolores) of Yakima, Wash., Bonnie (Charlie) Roper of Boise, Idaho, Billie Smith of Boise, Butch (Odie) of Metlakatia, Alaska; sister-in-law, Ida Holbrook of Puyallup, Wash.; close cousin, George Rhodes of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Agnes; a brother. Jack; and brother-in-law, Gary Smith.

Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, with interment at the Emmett Cemetery. A viewing was held Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m.
