Si Walker was the descendant of early settlers of Morgan and Putnam Counties, including Walker, Harwell, Shepherd, Moseley and Whitfield families. He was born on the family farm near Pennington in Morgan County in a home built by his father on the farm settled by his ancestor John Walker in the 1810s. He was named after his Walker grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an owner of Walker Knight Hardware Store in downtown Eatonton and lived with wife Margaret in a home on the main street. He died at the home where he was born on one of his regular visits. He was survived by his wife, and by daughter Nancy Louise Wilkins and a grandson Jay (J C Wilkins III), both of Fairhope, AL.
