She was born in Hinkletown, a daughter of the late Harry and Susanna M. Fasnacht Bard. She had been married for 59 years to Roy Lester Martin who preceded her in death October 8, 1994.
She was a lifelong member of the Bergstrasse Lutheran Church of Ephrata where she served diligently with the women of the church; and enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, sewing, and going to the cabin in Tioga County.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald B., husband of Shirley (Stafford) Martin of Ephrata, and Richard R., husband of Carol (Mensinger) Martin of Bloomsburg; five grandchildren, Ronald S. (Tracy) Martin of Newark, DE, Susan (Bradford) Hagen of Lancaster, Wendy (Bill) Young of Ephrata, Amy (Kent) Zalla of Canonsburg, and Eric Martin of Bozeman, MT; eight great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen E. Bard and M. Catherine Gehr.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 AM on Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Bergstrasse Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9 Hahnstown Road, Ephrata, followed by the funeral service at 10 AM with Rev. Herbert Lohr officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
