John Newby, one of the early settlers of this part of the county, died at the James Lower home on East Main Street, Saturday at two o'clock. He was 82 years old. Six daughters and one son survive him. The funeral was held at the Christian church Monday at 10 o'clock. Rev Blount officiating. It was a very large funeral. Burial was at the Dunkard cemetery.
