Seward Ernest Peterson, son of Jacob Henry Peterson and Zenob A. Bailey Peterson, was born March 30, 1915, northeast of Woodward, Oklahoma, and passed away in Elk City Community Hospital, Elk City, Oklahoma on February 18, 1991 at the age of seventy-five years.
He attended various schools in those early years including Haskew, Quarter-Master, Pie Flat, Hammon Indian School and Herring School. He spent much of his early life in the home of Granvil Allen, working as a farm hand.
On May 30, 1936, Seward E. Peterson and Irene Forgey were united in marriage at Cheyenne, Oklahoma. They were the parents of one daughter, Jana Sue.
Seward worked for the Herring Ranch for a time, then moved to Dalhart, Texas in 1927, working through these years in Texas as a farmer-rancher. While living in the Texhoma area, he served from 1947-1952 on the Texhoma School Board. After moving back to Leedey area, he was employed in farming and ranching until moving into the town of Leedey, in 1987, where he has since made his home.
Mr. Peterson's favorite hobbies and interests were hunting and baseball, and most of all he enjoyed watching his grand-children on the baseball field.
On February 20, 1889, he made his commitment of Faith, trusting in the foregiveness and goodness of the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene Peterson, one sister, Leona May Peterson, and one brother, Clarence Peterson, three half-brothers, Neal, Paul, and Everett Pererson, and two half-sisters, Ethel and Alice Peterson, and a special little granddaughter Tammi Sue Addington.
He is survived by one daughter, Jana Sue Addington and husband Billy Addington, and three grandchildren, Wendy Sue, Reggie Lynn, and Rocky Lynn, one sister, Dora Lee Gay of Nashville, Arkansas, and three brothers, Quannah Peterson of Memphis, Tennesse, Don Peterson of Del Rio, Texas, and George Petterson of El Centro, California, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
