Funeral for Pioneer of City Will Be Held This Afternoon
Death entered an early-day Abilene home yesterday to claim Mrs. Emily LEIGHTY, who with her husband, A. J. LEIGHTY, had been a resident of the city for nearly 45 years.
Mrs. LEIGHTY died at 10:30 a.m. at the West Texas Baptist sanitarium where she was removed a week ago from her home 310 Cedar street. Her health had been involved for a year and for several weeks her strength had steadily failed.
The funeral service will be held from the First Presbyterian church this afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Dr. T. S. KNOX, pastor, officiating.
Mrs. LEIGHTY, the former Emily WINSHIP, was a native Texan, born near Waco, where her marriage to Mr. LEIGHTY was solemnized.
The couple moved to Abilene in the early 1890's and Mr. LEIGHTY was for many years associated with the Texas & Pacific railway company, both as a ticket and freight agent. Their Cedar street residence was one of the early homes of the city. Mrs. LEIGHTY was an active member of the First Presbyterian church.
Survivors are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Jack PARRAMORE; two granddaughters, Mrs. Mayr Alice McFARLANE; two sisters, Mrs. Mollie DAVIS, Tyler, and Mrs. W. F. CHRISTIAN, Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Robert N. WINSHIP, Segovia, and S. A. WINSHIP, Houston.
Burial will be made in the Masonic cemetery, under the direction of Laughter Funeral home.
