George was the youngest of eight children born to Benjamin and Francis "Fanny" (Wade). He is found in the 1850 census in Ohio County, Kentucky, under "Belemay" and living with extended family (David Burks). He married LaoDicea (LeaDica or "Dicey") Purvis in 1856 in Bible Grove, Missouri. He briefly served in the Civil War (as a Private in Missouri 29th Regiment E), though his unit never entered action. His rejected pension application notes the physical description of: height 5'8", complexion: fair, eyes: blue, and hair: light. George and Lea had seven children and homesteaded in Gosper County, Nebraska in the 1870s. George moved to Oregon about 1912 and died in Deer Island in 1914. George's childen were: William, Anna Etta, Daniel Franklin, Eliza, Phillip, Amelia Elizabeth, and Edward. His grave is currently unmarked but the cemetery records note that Edward purchased two plots in August of 1914, one of which was used and the other still vacant. (Lea is buried in an unmarked grave in Molalla, where she presumably moved after George's death. She died in 1918.)

George's original obituary notes:
"Mr. George Bellamy, an old gentleman about 80 years of age, died at the home of his son Edward Bellamy near Deer Island on the 16th of July. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday morning, the services being by Rev. F.J. Meyers of St. Helens Congregational Church. Mr. Bellamy has been a resident of this county for about a year and leaves a widow and two sons in this county and two sons in the east."
