She was born on June 15, 1929, in Sagamore, PA, the daughter of Amos and Anna (Reefer) Harkleroad.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the Whitesburg United Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women's Association. She graduated from Elderton High School in 1947 and called Armstrong County home for most of her life, aside from the 30 years spent in Cleveland, OH. In addition to Erma being a loving mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, she enjoyed sewing, craftwork, and creating her own special scrapbooks. She will be best remembered for organizing and helping cook the church meals and her beautiful flower gardens.
She will be deeply missed by her husband Charles F. Adams, Sr. whom she married June 1, 1990; a son, Linton Wayne Wingard and wife Trish of Gastonia, NC; two daughters, Linda Eckenfels and husband Joseph of Bozeman, MT, and Yvonne Wingard and husband Michael Ruddell of Yellow Springs, OH; a step-son, Charles F. Adams, Jr. of Kittanning, PA; two step-daughters, Genevieve Kerr and husband Brian of Brookville, PA, and Darlene Courier and husband Mark of Kilgore, TX; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a brother, Willard Leo Harkleroad and wife Helen of Indiana, PA; and four sisters, Sarah Graham of Ford City, Louise Fleming of Shelocta, PA, Anna Bragg and husband James of West Virginia, and Della Hankinson and husband Harry of Kittanning, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Nevin Wingard who died July 10, 1987; a son, Roger Paul Wingard; two brothers, Leonard E. Harkleroad and William Harkleroad; and two sisters, Dorothy P. Harkleroad, and Betty I. Harkleroad.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 S. Main St., Elderton, PA.
Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 10 AM until the time of funeral service at 11 AM with the Rev. Craig R. Lindahl officiating.
Burial will follow at the Harkleroad Cemetery, Cowanshannock Twp., Armstrong Co., PA.
