Del was born on August 14, 1891, the son of Frank and Ella (Jones) Brown two years after Washington Territory became a state. His father owned a store in the mining town of Ruby, a few miles from the Okanogan county seat of Conconully, and had established a home there. After the price of silver took a deep plunge and people left Ruby, the family moved to British Columbia where Del attended school. His two younger brothers Fritz and Harold were born there. Del's father served as postmaster of Trail, B.C. for many years, but in 1924 the family moved to California where Del married Freida Grunewald. The date was December 6, 1924. Del and Freida made their home in San Rafael and they had one daughter, Barbara. Del worked most of his life at the San Rafael State Penitentiary in the commissary division of the prison. His parents and both his brothers established homes in central California: Frank and Ella in Oakland, Fritz in Sacramento, and Harold in Piedmont and Paradise. Del passed away on July 17, 1964, a few months after his wife Frieda died.
