She was born Oct. 23, 1907, in Bloomington, the daughter of Archibald and Harriet Bowen. She married William A.F. Stephenson; they later divorced.
Mrs. Stephenson graduated from Springfield High School in 1924, attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington and earned a degree from the University of Chicago. She was a reporter for the Chicago Herald Examiner and in the 1930s for NEA news service, where she was assigned as one of the first female reporters to meet with Eleanor Roosevelt. She and her husband joined the New Deal. She also worked in public relations for the Chicago World's Fair, the office of the Price administration as an administrator, Business Week magazine and in the late 1950s in the public affairs office at the University of Chicago as an editor and writer, retiring in 1966. She was active in the Alexandria, Va., Democratic Party. She was a member of the Woman's National Democratic Club and the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Alexandria.
Survivors: a daughter, Harriet (husband, Walt) Mika of Springfield, Va.; and a grandson.
Memorial services: Goodwin House in Alexandria. Graveside services: Oak Ridge Cemetery, the Rev. Gordon Mc Lean officiating.
