Milton Pollock Dunlap was the son of Madison Dunlap and Martha Hanna Dunlap. He married Sarah Isabella Kerr, the daughter of Thomas Kerr and Nancy McClung Patton, unrelated Kerrs, on 24 Jan 1877 at Kerrs Creek, Virginia. Thomas was the son of Andrew Kerr and Isabelle McDowell of Lower Marsh Creek, Adams Co., PA.* Sarah is also buried here and several of their children.


On the 1860 Kerrs Creek, Dist. 5, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found farmer Madison Dunlap, 51 with $20K in real estate, plus other Dunlaps: (female) M. Henderson (Hanna), 48; (the rest are male Dunlaps) J. Wm. (Jno M), 23; S. Mackey (Saml McKee), 17; Wm M., 13; M. Kyle (MILTON P.), 9; W. White (Walter Wharton), 7 and O. Benj. (O Beverlin), 5 plus a seamstress, etc., all Virginia born.


On the 1870 Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found farmer (male) M. Dunlap, 51 with $24,400 in real estate and other Dunlaps: Martha H., 58; Laborers: Samuel, 27; Wm M., 23; MILTON, 20; Walter W., 17 and Oklelia B., 15, all Virginia born. Other laborers and probably domestic with her young children resided with them. R K Dunlap and family lived nearby.


1877: Milton P. Dunlap, age 26, single, born Rockbridge, lives Rockbridge, a farmer, the son of M. and M. Dunlap, & Kerr, Sallie B., age 25, single, born Rockbridge, lives Rockbridge, the daughter of Thos. and N. Kerr, were married on 24 Jan 1877, by D. A. Penick. Married at Kerrs Creek. Louise M. Perkins, Rockbridge County, Virginia Marriages, 1851-1885, 1989. p 108.


On the 1880 Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found farmer M. P. Dunlap, 30; wife Sally B. Dunlap, 29; son Samuel M. Dunlap, 2; son Thomas K. Dunlap, 10/12; father Madison Dunlap, 71 and brother Saml. Mc K Dunlap, 37, all Virginia born. Madison's father was born in Scotland and mother in Pennsylvania.


On the 1900 Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found farmer M P Dunlap, 48, born Oct 1851; wife of 24 years, Sallie B Dunlap, 48, Dec 1851, had 9 kids, 7 living; sons or daughters: Samuel M Dunlap, 23, OCt 1876; George T Dunlap, 19, Nov 1880; Nannie K Dunlap, 15, Jun 1884; Clarance M Dunlap, 13, Oct 1886; Isebell W Dunlap, 10, Dec 1889; Mary M Dunlap, 9, Oct 1891; Bessie M C Dunlap, 6, Sep 1893 and brother Samuel M K Dunlap, 57, Jan 1843, all Virginia born.


1905: Family Reunion. (Special to The Times Dispatch.) Lexington, Virginia, Dec. 29 - A family reunion of the Dunlaps, a well known family of Rockbridge, was held Tuesday at the home of the oldest brother, Mr. Robert M. Dunlap, on Whistle Creek. There were present Mrs. Margaret Strain, of near Brownsbug; Messrs. Samuel M. Dunlap, Milton P. Dunlap, William M. Dunlap and O.B. Dunlap, all of Rockbridge. The Times Dispatch, 30 Dec 1905, p 4;


1906: All the Dunlap siblings got together, except Walter: From the Times Dispatch of Richmond, Virginia, dated 1 Jan 1906. The Dunlap family of Rockbridge county, held a family reunion in the home of Mr. Robert M. (sic) Dunlap, of Whistle Creek last Tuesday. There were present Mrs. Margaret Strain, of near Brownsburg, Messrs. Samuel M. Dunlap, Milton P. Dunlap, William M. Dunlap, and O.B. Dunlap, all of Rockbridge (See photo on Robert M. Dunlap's site).


On the 1910 Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found laborer on brother's farm, S. McK Dunlap (Ancestry indexes the entire family under Aunlap), 67; residing beside farmer M P , 58; wife of 33 years, Mrs. S.B., 58; sons or daughters: G T, 27; Nannie K, 25; Clarence, 23; public school teacher Isabelle W, 21; Margaurite, 18 and Ben. McD, 16, all Virginia born.


Milton Pollock Dunlap born 21 Dec 1850 in Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., Virginia, to parents Madison Dunlap and Martha H McKee. He was a retired farmer and the widow of Sara I Dunlap. On 3 Oct 1940. he died in Rockbridge Co., Virginia. Virginia CD #24285.


In Jan 1981, Margaret S. Seebert called him her Uncle Mit.


No idea where the Pollock surname derived but the Scottish Pollock crest is a "boar passant shot through with a dart."
