Seaman 1st Class A. D. Fisher, USN, was one of eight servicemen to drown following the capsizing of a liberty launch returning to the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVB-41) off Hyeres, France on the evening of 16 February 1948.

S1c Fisher was cited in the investigative report as: "when safely in the rescue launch, dived overboard to help a man in the water. He was not seen again."

S1c Fisher's funeral and burial took place on May 11, 1948. He was the son of Mr. William J. and Mrs. Lydla C. Fisher, of Los Angeles, Calif and the brother to Mrs. Viola M. Goodwill.
