History
Agnes Klement was born Oct. 8, 1908 to John and Appolonia Bayer. Her early childhood memories included chopping weeds out of the cotton patch, picking cotton, and milking cows. She often rode to school on horseback.
When her mother became terminally ill with cancer, Agnes Bayer Klement nursed her until she died and she continued to live at home to care for her younger brothers until she
married Norbert Klement Aug. 1, 1933. Agnes Bayer Klement frequently cooked three meals and snacks for neighbors who came to help thresh. She arose before dawn to begin the twice daily milking of the cows, tending the chickens and newborn calves and an endless list of necessities that helped keep the farm productive. After retirement in 1983, Agnes Bayer Klement and her husband moved to town and she enjoyed a more relaxed lifestyle with new friendships. She found time to create quilts and afghans. And she enjoyed crocheting.
