He was the youngest of 9 children; he was the father of 5 boys. Worked as a farmer, had a dairy, raised cattle, hogs, sheep, horses and chickens. In 1966 he and his 5 sons formed a corporation in farming and ranching. He was elected onto the board of the Upper Elm Red Soil and Water Conservation District, working as the chairman of the board from 1970-1981.
