Chester L. "Chet" DeMott, 72,of Shelbyville, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Major Hospital. Born March 28, 1932, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Chester Frank and Laura Ann "Billie" Spurlin DeMott. He married Donna Howison on Jul7 29 1964, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Bradley wife Becky, DeMott of Marietta and Link DeMott of Mooresville; two stepsons, William wife Joni Crenshaw of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Sam Crenshaw of Ocala, Fla;and two grandchildren, Kristin DeMott and Matthew Crenshaw. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert D. DeMott; and one sister, Peggy J. DeMott. he was a field representative for True Value Hardware from 1970 until retiring in 1996. he previously farmed and worked with his father and brother at DeMott and Son's Implements. Mr DeMott graduated in 1950 from Mount Auburn High School, where he was president of the senior class and instrumental in starting the yearbook. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. DeMott was a member of First United Methodist church, Lions Club, Elks Club, Knights of Columbus,American Legion and Eagles Lodge. visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thursday at Carmoney Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home 819 S. Harrison Street. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom True officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery.
