In the Name of God Amen, I Laurence Detter of Washington Township York County and State of Pennsylvania being sick and weak in body but of sound mind, memory and understanding but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner & form following, to wit, principally and first of all, I surrender my immortal soul into the hands of the Almighty god who gave it & my body to the Earth to be buried in a descent Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and also such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and dispose of the same in the following manner to wit. I order and direct that my funeral expenses and just debts shall be paid first out of my Estate by my Executors hereinafter named. Item I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Catherine the small room in my dwelling house on the North side of the house also privilege in the kitchen and cellar or other part of the house as she pleased also the third part of the garden for her use also two hundred weight of pork twelve bushels of wheat three bushels of Rye and three bushels of corn and sufficient of fire wood ready cut and brought into her room to her stoff (stove) to make fire, and plenty twenty pounds of flax ready heckled all the above mentioned articles to be paid by my two sons Peter & Nicholas out of my Plantation yearly and every year in regular time and season and to keep one cow for her as their own (all the above during her life). I further give and bequeath to my wife the yearly interest of two hundred pounds to be paid to her by my said sons Peter & Nicholas yearly, and every year during her life. Its further my will that my wife shall have two bed headsteads her choice the stove and pipe in my dwelling room the large iron kettle two iron pots all the pewter ware one tin bucket and one wooden bucket one bucking tub her spinning wheel four bags one chest and all the Dutch books and two of my chairs her choice. Item I give my whole dwelling plantation to my two sons Peter & Nicholas for the sum of two thousand six hundred and twenty five pounds lawfull money of Pennsylvania to be paid in manner as following two hundred pounds in hand for the use of my wife as aforesaid thence one hundred and fifty pounds yearly and every year till

the whole aforesaid sum shall be fully discharged. Its further my will that if any of my sons take the Plantation as aforesaid that they are to have my waggon to said Plantation (otherwise not). Item I give and bequeath to my son Nicholas my lead mare and her geer and the left hand plough and the tacklings thereto belonging over and above his share. Item I give and bequeath to my son John the sum of fifty pounds lawfull money of Pennsylvania over and above his share. Its further my will that all my children namely Catherine intermarried to Joseph Farenbach, Peter, Mathias, Nicholas, Margaret intermarried to William Firestone, Elizabeth intermarried to Jacob Hartman, Christine, Esther, Susanna, Magdaline, & John shall all have equally share and share alike. My daughters Catherine, Margaret, and Elizabeth have each of them received in cattle and household furniture to the amount of sixty dollars. Esther she having likewise received to the amount of ten pounds, Christina she having one pair bedsteads to the amount of twenty five shillings. Its further my will that any hereinafter named Executors, shall sell and dispose of my movable Estate as soon after my decease as they shall think convenient. Its further my will that the decease of my wife the two hundred pounds the hand money aforesaid shall be divided equally share and share alike among all my children. And Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my sons Peter and Mathias to the be Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other wills Legacies and bequests by me heretofore made, and declaring this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. Signed sealed, published, pronounced and declared by the said testator as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request have subscribed as witnesses, interlined before signing at Sunday places. subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Instrument of writing and on their solemn affirmation (they conscientiously serupling? the taking of an oath) do severally say that they were personally present and saw and heard the above name Lorentz Doetter sign his name unto and seal and publish the foregoing Instrument of Writing as and for his Last Will and Testament, and that at the time of the doing thereof he the said Lorentz Doetter was of a sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief; and that they subscribed their names thereto as witnesses in the presence of the said Testator and at his request and also in the presence of each other at the same time. In the Name of God Amen, I Nicholas Detter, of Reading Township in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, Yeoman being aged and weak in Body but yet of sound, disposing mind, memory and understanding, do make and publish this my last will and testament in the following manner and form, Principally I recommend my Immortal Spirit unto the hand of God and my Body to the Dust from whence it is taken and as to such worldly

Estate wherewith God was pleased to bless me with in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same as follows, I Order that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid as soon as can be after my decease by my Executors hereafter named. I give and Desire unto my son Lorentz Detter my Plantation and Tract of Land whereon I now live situate in Reading Township in the County of York aforesaid adjoining Lands of John Bauer, George Herman, John Asper, and others containing about two hundred and eighty three acres and allowance be the same more of less. To hold the same with the hereditaments and appurtanences unto my said son Lorentz Detter his heirs and assigns, to the only proper use and behoof of the said Lorence Detter his heirs and assigns forever, He my said son Lorence Detter payiing the sum of one hundred pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania in specie, and I do hereby charge the above devised Lands with the Payment of the same, to be paid and I Give and Bequeath the same unto my son Matthias Detter his heirs and assigns payable as follows: The sum of fifteen pounds money aforesaid in one year after my decease and from thence yearly the sum of Sixteen Pounds, till the said sum of One hundred Pounds be fully paid and discharged. I likewise give and bequeath unto my said son Lorentz Detter his heirs and assigns all other my Real and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever. And lastly I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my sais son Lorence Detter Executors of this my Last Will and Testament ratifying this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said Nicholas Detter the Testator have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninetheenth day of June, In the year of Our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Eight. York County ss: Before me Jacob Barnitz, Esq, Register of the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in & for the County of York in the State of Pennsylvania, personally came John Ernst and John Doll, Junior, the two subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Instrument of Writing, and on their solemn oath; do severally say that they were personally present and saw and heard the above named Nicholas Detter sign his name unto and seal and publish the foregoing Instrument of Writing as and for his Last Will and Testament and that at the time of the doing thereof he the said Nicholas Detter was of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding to the be best of their knowledge & belief.
