He was the paternal grandson of Capt. Stephen C. Barrington (CSA-NC 67th, Co. B) and wife Mary Emily; and the gr-grandson of William Barrington & Louisa Gaskins of Craven County. He was the maternal grandchild of Green C. and Pherabe Brinson of Craven County.
The Barringtons have long roots in Craven County, but John's father was born in Pamlico County where he married and had his first 3 children. The family then moved to Harnett county where they farmed, and where 2 more children were born. His wife, Cassie Brinson, died in 1910, and has father married soon thereafter to Alice Taylor (1875-1920) by whom 3 more children were born. In about 1910, the family moved to St. Mary's in Wake County. After his stepmother died in 1920, his father married (3rd) in 1922 to Lola Perland (1886-1946), a grammar school Principal in then working in Virginia. John C. Barrington Sr. died in 1934 and was buried near his first wife.
John Clyde Barrington married Ruby Lee Honeycutt of Auburn sometime after 1920 soon thereafter removed to New York City where John was a social worker and residential church director. Here they became parents to 4 known daughters:
* Angela Barrington (c. 1928)
* Jeanette Barringotn (c. 1929)
* Marjorie Barrington (c. 1938)
* Cynthia Barrington (c. 1945)
Moving back to North Carolina, the family resided for a time in Fayetteville.
John served in World War II and he and his wife later resided in Wake County. He was killed in an automobile accident in 1978 at the age of 74. His wife survived him 12 years, passing in 1990 at about age 88.
All three daughters married and removed to South Carolina.
