He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Jan. 19, 1965, son of Ernest and Dorothy Smith.
A solitary man of great introspect, Howard was truly heroic. His medical problems, over a long period of time, did not keep him from being a loving father, a hard worker and a fine carpenter. Howard's shortened life centered around his daughter Molly and his considerable woodworking skills. We will always hold Howard in our hearts and remember his courage and tenacity.
Howard is survived by his beloved daughter, Molly Hannah Smith of Lake Placid; his mother, Dorothy Smith of Saranac; his siblings, Christine Reynolds of Lake Placid, Maureen Parker of Morrisonville, Charles Cleland of Plattsburgh, Stephanie Smith of Florida; his former wife, Ann Dougherty; his former in-laws, Ed and Molly Dougherty; and a special friend, Terry Hanrahan of Lake Placid.
Howard is predeceased by his father, Ernest Smith; and his grandparents, Francis and Hazel Denton.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. from the Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh.
