Virginia was born in Greenbrier, Virginia to James and Margaret (Thorpe) Parkins. They died when she was very young and was raised in Illinois by her aunt and uncle, Mordicai and Susannah James. Married George Milton Wells in Illinois right after the close of the Civil War sometime late in 1865. They lived in Illinois for a number of years, then moving to Oklahoma where she resided until her death on 16 March 1902. Her husband George Milton Wells, then moved to Hood River, Oregon where he died in 1913. George and Virginia's children were Georgia, Ella, Ida May, Mary Francis, Clara Emaline, Jessie Bell/Belle, Charles Perry, Andrew Elmer, Mella Elizabeth, Ella Florence and Cora Eunice.
