John P. Beard, 73, died of a heart attack while fighting a grass fire Tuesday at his home near Denison. He was born January 16, 1885, in Morrow county Ohio, and had lived in Jackson county the past 55 years. He was a member of the Methodist church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Agnes Beard of the home; two sons, Robert E. Beard of Holton and James A. Beard of Tracy, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Marie Swank of Concord, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Naomi Chorn of Holton and Mrs. Oreta Zabel of Portland, Ore.
Services will be at 2 pm Thursday in the Mercer funeral home at Holton with burial in the Soldier cemetery.
