1929 December 25 Rockville Tribune: OBIT - MRS. SAM PHILLIPS DIES
Mrs. Sam Phillips, aged 71, died at her home near Mecca this morning at 8 o'clock. She had been ill for 9 weeks, suffering with heart trouble. She was born neat Mecca and spent all of her life near there. Surviving are: The husband, 3 sons, Verne and Frank of Terre Haute, and Parke of Clinton, and 2 daughters, Mrs. Ethal Grethlein of Amarillo, Tex., and Mrs. May Anderson of near Mecca, Funeral arrangement have not yet been made.

1930 January 2 The Montezuma Enterprise: OBIT - MRS. SAMUEL PHILLIPS PASSES AWAY
Mrs. Samuel Phillips who for some time has been in failing health passed away at her home in the Arabia neighborhood December the twenty-sixth. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, with the Rev. C.C. Griggs of Rockville officiating. Burial was made in the Arabia cemetery.
The deceased was both near Mecca Indiana in October and passed away at age of seventy one years. She was the daughter of Abner Chew.
She grew up in the vicinity where she was born, attending the Mecca school and receiving what education was given at that time.
Fifty-two years in the month of October she was united in marriage to Samuel Phillips a farmer and to this union three sons and two daughter were born. They are Vern Phillips and Frank Phillips of Terre Haute, Parke Phillips of Clinton, Mrs. Ethal Grethelin of Amarillo, Texas, and Mrs. Harry Anderson of Montezuma. All of these with nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren and the husband she leaves to mourn her passing.
