Thomas, known as Tom, was the son of John Thomas & Lydia Ann (Thompson) Shindler. His father was born in Switzerland & his mother in TX.

Tom married Millie Melissa Dodson (daughter of George & Cynthia Dodson) in McKinney, Collin Co, TX on July 16, 1913. He was 19 years old, & Millie was 14.

In 1918, Tom and Millie moved to Yarnaby & lived on her parent's farm. Their daughter, Ruth, said that her dad liked to travel & was like a nomad wanderer. Her parents lived in various places in TX & in AR. They would move from Yarnaby several times, only to return again. In the late 1930's, they moved to Dension, where they lived the rest of their lives.

They had 12 children from 1914 - 1938. They are: Dorothy May, Orel Smith, Odus Bell, Florence Lola, Melva May, Ruth Thelma, Tommie Frances, George Harvey, 1929; John Leslie, Connie Agnes, & Lawrence Eddie.

Tom helped his father-in-law build & operate a ferry across the Red River to the Texas side. His & Millie's house was about one-quarter mile from the river, built on higher ground to protect it from flood water. This location made it possible for Tom to be there when someone rang the bell, needing to use the ferry. Later the house and the ferry were destroyed by a Tornado. Millie's brother, Bill, rebuilt their house, & Tom helped when he wasn't working on the ferry.

From Yarnaby, they moved to Vernon, Texas, about half-way between Amarillo & the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They planted a large crop of vegetables, which Tom sold locally.

Tom & Millie were living in Denison when he died at from a Cerebral Thrombosis" on May 17, 1951. He had lived 58 years, 2 months, & 24 days. Millie, shown as Mrs. T.D. Shindler, was the informant on his death certificate. He was buried May 18.

His obituary was published in the Denison Herald on Thursday, May 17, 1951
