On December 23, 1924, 30-year-old Hugh married the love of his life: Leola McCawley. The couple had a much-loved son and daughter.
Hugh died on February 26, 1968, in Jackson County, Tennessee, at the age of 73. He was buried in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in Jackson County. His beloved Leola was buried beside him 22 years later.
